Tuesday on Counting On Season 3 Episode 5, Jeremy Vuolo planned a surprise tip – and an even bigger surprise for Jinger Duggar.
If you watch Counting On online, you know how the Duggars do long distance relationships … basically they try not to bother with it.
Courtship moves fast, after all, especially if you’re Jinger.
So it really came as little surprise to fans that Jeremy was already planning a return trip to Arkansas to surprise Jinger. With help, of course.
Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, having warmed to Vuolo somewhat after sort of disapproving of Jeremy initially, were in on the surprise.
As were Ben Seewald and Jessa Duggar. Exciting!
Discussing Jeremy and Jinger’s future, Jessa said that she and Ben courted for 11 months, a relatively long time in the Duggars’ world.
In truth, 11 months would be a reasonable time frame to get engaged for any couple, regardless of their background or belief system.
Derick Dillard and Jill Duggar, however, only courted for three months, and Jessa predicted Jeremy and Jinger would be closer to that.
“As I’ve gotten to know Jinger, it has become very clear to me that this is the woman that I want to marry,” Jeremy told the TLC cameras.
Soon, he put his money where his mouth is.
After Ben picked him up at the airport, they headed straight for the jewelry store, phoning Jim Bob and inviting him to join in as well.
Jeremy said he “didn’t want to do anything behind [Jim Bob’s] back,” since Jinger is his daughter (and Jim Bob makes ridiculous demands).
In any case, the three went to the same shop where both Jim Bob and Ben had both gotten their engagement rings, and put in work.
The producers, we mean Vuolo, knew Jinger liked princess cut diamonds, and being a pastor, he liked the look of a cathedral setting.
Not surprisingly, the jeweler had THE perfect option ready, putting Jeremy – who said he only came to “browse” – in an awkward spot.
After sending his mom a picture and gushing about how his parents love Jinger, he declared that this was “the one” … for The One.
“I think I found the ring for Jinger,” he said, beaming.
The owner said he would “get an appraisal,” and Vuolo left the store without the ring, for now; Jeremy still had a surprise for her, though.
Jinger still had no idea he was in town, so Jessa kept her busy and distracted with a detour to their favorite restaurant, Tacos for Life.
“It’s only been two days, but I miss him so much,” Jinger said, gushing over the man she called her best friend and “God’s plan” for them.
Jessa smiled, knowingly, as if none the wiser …
Jessa arranged to have the restaurant seat Jinger with her back to the kitchen, so she couldn’t see Ben and Jeremy walk out with their order.
Her reaction was pretty priceless, we have to say.
“It was the best thing ever!” Jinger said, beaming.
After a family fun date full of chaperones, the young woman reflected, “I don’t know if next time he visits, I’ll have another surprise.”
The way this thing is going, you never can tell!
In anticlimactic news, Ben and Jessa were excited to show city-dwelling friends Flame and Crystal what life was like out in the country.
Their rural tour included grilling in the Seewalds’ back yard, checking out a local music instrument store, and visiting Jana’s garden.
After driving a tractor, Flame got roped into showing off his skills on the cello, and the episode ended without a proposal from Jeremy.
Gotta leave us wanting more, we suppose.
